How to Use the Golf Handicap Calculator
Your WHS Handicap Index is calculated from score differentials — a measure of how well you played relative to course difficulty. Enter your gross score, the course's published course rating (CR), and slope rating for each round. The calculator finds the best differentials, averages them, and multiplies by 0.96 (the WHS adjustment factor) to produce your Handicap Index.
Score Differential Formula
Differential = (Gross Score − Course Rating) × 113 ÷ Slope Rating
| Rounds Available | Differentials Used |
|---|---|
| 3–4 rounds | Lowest 1 |
| 5–8 rounds | Lowest 2–3 |
| 20 rounds | Lowest 8 |
Frequently Asked Questions
Check the scorecard — most courses print CR and Slope by tee color. You can also find them on the club's website or on platforms like USGA Golf Handicap and Information Network (GHIN).
Enter your gross (total) score including all penalty strokes. The handicap system adjusts for course difficulty via CR and Slope, so don't apply any handicap strokes before entering.
