How to Use the Ping Impact Calculator
Ping (latency) is the round-trip time in milliseconds for data to travel from your device to the game server and back. Higher ping means a larger gap between your input and the server's response — this matters most in reflex-intensive games like FPS and fighting games.
Recommended ping ranges by genre: Fighting games ≤ 20 ms, FPS ≤ 30 ms, MOBA ≤ 50 ms, Battle Royale ≤ 60 ms, Racing ≤ 80 ms, RPG/MMORPG ≤ 100 ms. Exceeding these thresholds causes progressively more noticeable disadvantage.
Note: ping covers only network latency. Total input lag also includes frame delay (1000/FPS), display latency, and server tick-rate delays. For a complete input lag estimate, use this alongside the FPS Input Lag Calculator.
Frequently Asked Questions
High ping increases the delay between your input and the server's response. FPS and fighting games are most sensitive. RPGs and MMOs are less affected because reaction speed is less critical.
Fighting games: 0–20 ms, FPS: 0–30 ms, MOBA: 0–50 ms, Battle Royale: 0–60 ms, Racing: 0–80 ms, RPG/MMORPG: 0–100 ms.
Ping measures round-trip network latency only. Total input lag = ping + frame time (1000/FPS) + display latency + server processing delay.
