How to Use the Dart Checkout Calculator

A checkout in darts means bringing your remaining score to exactly zero, with the final dart landing on a double (including the bullseye double worth 50). Finishing on a single or triple doesn't count - your turn just ends with points still on the board. This calculator takes your remaining score and finds valid checkout combinations, ranked by the fewest darts required.

For example, 170 is the highest checkout possible in darts, and it can only be finished with triple-20, triple-20, and the bullseye double (60 + 60 + 50). On the other hand, 159, 162, 163, 165, 166, 168, and 169 are "bogey numbers" - scores that cannot be reduced to zero on a double no matter which darts you throw, so you have to route through a different number first.

The calculator searches across all 62 possible dart values - triples, doubles, singles, the single bull, and the double bull - to find combinations that finish in one, two, or three darts. When multiple combos share the same dart count, up to four are shown so you can pick the one ending on a double you're confident hitting. If you're newer to darts, practicing wide, familiar doubles like D16 or D20 tends to build reliable checkout habits faster than chasing exotic combinations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a dart checkout?

A checkout is finishing a leg by bringing your remaining score to exactly zero, with the final dart landing on a double (including the bullseye double). Finishing on a single or triple does not count.

Can every score be checked out?

No. 159, 162, 163, 165, 166, 168, and 169 are known as bogey numbers - scores that cannot be finished under double-out rules with any dart combination. The highest possible checkout is 170, using two triple-20s and the bullseye double.

If there are multiple checkout combos, which one should I pick?

It's generally best to throw your higher-percentage big numbers first (triples and doubles), then finish on a double you're comfortable hitting. Pick any listed combo that ends on your go-to double.
