How to Use the Ramen Water & Cook Time Calculator
When cooking more than one pack of instant noodles at once, simply multiplying the water by the pack count often leaves the broth too watery or the noodles overcooked. This calculator takes the number of packs you're making and gives you the right amount of water and an approximate cook time.
For a single pack, the standard amount printed on most packages is about 550ml (roughly 18.6 fl oz). Since some water evaporates during boiling, the extra water needed per additional pack actually shrinks a bit as the pack count rises — so doubling to 2 packs doesn't mean doubling the water exactly. This calculator scales the water amount with that in mind, which keeps the broth's saltiness closer to what a single pack tastes like.
Cook time matters too. A fuller pot takes longer to return to a rolling boil, so while 1-2 packs usually cook in about 4 minutes, give yourself a bit more time once you're making 3 or more packs at once.
Whether it's a late-night bowl or a big pot to feed a group after drinks, use this whenever you're unsure how much water to add for the number of packs you're making. The FAQ below explains the water-scaling and timing logic in more detail.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. Some water evaporates during boiling, so the amount needed per pack drops slightly as you add more packs. This calculator accounts for that.
Yes — more water in the pot takes longer to return to a boil, so give yourself a bit more time once you're cooking 3 or more packs.
The noodles may cook unevenly and the broth can turn out too salty. Use the calculated amount as a baseline and adjust slightly to taste.
