How Many Calories Do You Burn Per Round of Boxing?
Boxing and kickboxing are full-body, high-intensity workouts that burn a serious amount of energy in a short time. This calculator takes your weight, total rounds, round length, and training intensity — from mitt and heavy bag work up to hard sparring — and calculates the calories burned per round along with the total for the whole session. It's also a handy way to compare how much intensity level actually matters.
Why intensity changes the burn so much
The same time spent on light mitt work versus all-out sparring produces very different heart rates and muscle recruitment. This calculator applies a different exercise intensity (MET) value for each level, so hard sparring or kickboxing shows a noticeably higher burn than light bag work over the same time.
Rest periods aren't included
Real boxing and kickboxing sessions include roughly a minute of rest between rounds, but this calculator only counts active round time. Keep that in mind if you want to compare it against your total gym time including rest. Results are average estimates and can vary based on your individual fitness level and effort.
Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on intensity, but kickboxing's kicks engage more of the body's muscles, so it often burns slightly more per minute than boxing alone. That said, your own training intensity matters more than the sport itself.
No. This calculator only counts active round time and doesn't include the roughly 1-minute rest period typically taken between rounds.
