How to use the IELTS Academic and General bands comparator
IELTS comes in two versions, and universities, immigration programs and employers each accept a particular one. If you have sat both, this page shows how far apart the results came out and whether the version your organization accepts clears the band it asks for. Enter both overall bands, and add the Reading bands if you want that row too.
The gap is the absolute difference between the two bands, shown to one decimal place. A requirement counts as met when your band is equal to or above the required band, and at the boundary the margin reads 0.0 band. Entries are accepted only from 0 to 9 in half-band steps.
There is no official conversion table between the two versions, so no estimate of one band from the other is offered here. The page also does not build an overall band out of section scores; type in the bands printed on your test report form.
Frequently Asked Questions
It cannot be converted. The raw-score-to-band standard for Reading is different in the two tests, so no official one-to-one conversion table exists. This tool shows the two sets of bands side by side and reports the gap instead.
Yes. With 6.5 required and a 6.5 band, the requirement is met and the margin reads 0.0 band.
Not if the organization accepts only one type. A higher band on the other test does not stand in for it, so check the accepted type first and compare using that band.
