How to use the merit scholarship GPA tier calculator

Merit aid is rarely pass or fail: it comes in tiers, each with its own GPA threshold and award rate, and the same GPA can mean a full waiver at one school and a quarter off at another. Enter the tiers exactly as your award notice lists them and this page shows which tier you land in, how much tuition it takes off, and how far you are from the next tier up.

Each line holds a tier name, a GPA threshold and an award rate. Among the tiers your GPA clears, the highest rate is applied, and a GPA equal to a threshold counts as clearing it. The award is tuition multiplied by the rate, rounded down to the cent. If the credits you are enrolled in fall below the required load, the page flags that the award is not payable this term.

Thresholds, rates and credit load rules differ completely by school and year, so nothing is built in. This page does not handle need-based aid, work-study or anything decided on factors other than GPA.

Frequently asked questions

Does a GPA exactly at a tier threshold qualify?

Yes. Award notices are normally written as at or above the threshold, so a GPA equal to it lands in that tier here. If yours requires strictly above, add 0.01 to the threshold you enter.

Which tier is picked when several are met?

Among the tiers your GPA clears, the one with the highest award rate is picked. If two share the same rate, the one entered first is shown.

What happens if I miss the credit load rule?

If the credits you are enrolled in fall below the required load, the page says you are not payable this term and holds the award at zero, even though the tier table still shows which thresholds your GPA clears.
