How this attempt comparison works

After sitting an exam again, the useful questions are whether the overall average moved and which parts actually changed. Enter one line per part with its name, the score from this attempt and the score from the last one, and this page works out the change per part and lays the two verdicts side by side.

Each average is worked out separately by adding that attempt scores and dividing by the number of parts, and the change is this average minus the last one. A part fails only when it is strictly below the minimum, so exactly 40 against a 40 minimum is not a failure, and the average passes at or above the figure entered. Parts that did not move are marked as unchanged rather than given a sign, and if nothing improved or nothing dropped the page says so on that line.

If the part list changed between attempts, only matching parts give a meaningful comparison. The standards are editable because they change between exam cycles. Difficulty adjustment is not modelled and no forecast is made for a future attempt: this page only lines up the two sets of results you entered.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if the part list changed between attempts?

Only line up matching parts. Putting two different parts on one line makes the change figure meaningless.

The average rose but it still says short. Why?

Either the average is still under the required figure or a part sits below its minimum. The per-attempt line shows which one it is.

Does it forecast a future attempt?

No. It only compares the two sets of results you entered and does not extend the gain into a predicted score.
