Paste the list exactly as you have it
Paste a column copied out of a spreadsheet, a comma-joined string or a list of lines pulled from a log, and newlines, commas and tabs are all read as separators. Each value is trimmed, empty ones are dropped, and a value already wrapped in quotes has one layer removed. Turn on duplicate removal and the count of removed duplicates is reported alongside.
How escaping and identifier checks work
In string mode each value is wrapped in single quotes and any single quote inside it is escaped by doubling. Backslash escaping is avoided because it behaves differently per database. Number mode leaves the quotes off and instead rejects the input while naming the line that is not an integer or decimal. The column name allows only letters, digits, underscores and $, and a name that does not fit is rejected rather than quoted to make it pass. Checked October 2026.
Limits and what it will not do
A very long IN clause may hit a query-length or item-count limit in your database or driver. Those ceilings differ per product, so no number is claimed here; instead there is an option to split the list into chunks of N joined with OR. If the values come from user input, bind them as parameters rather than concatenating this string. No query is executed and no performance analysis is offered.
Frequently Asked Questions
It is escaped by doubling, so O'Brien becomes 'O''Brien'. Backslash escaping is avoided because databases differ in how they treat it.
Your database and driver may impose a limit, and the exact ceiling differs per product, so no figure is claimed here. Use the split option, or move to a temporary table and a join.
It does not run the query, analyze an execution plan, or reformat SQL. It stops at turning a value list into an IN clause.
