Business Card Bleed Size Calculator — How to Use
Enter your card size and bleed/safe area values to instantly calculate trim, bleed, and safe area dimensions. Always prepare your artwork at the bleed size before submitting to a printer.
Bleed extends your background 3mm beyond the trim edge so no white gaps appear when the card is cut. The safe area keeps a margin inside the trim line so important content (name, phone, logo) won't be accidentally cut off.
For a US standard card (3.5×2 in / 88.9×50.8mm) with 3mm bleed, the print file size is 94.9×56.8mm and the safe area is 82.9×44.8mm. Most design tools (Illustrator, InDesign) let you set crop marks to apply these automatically.
Frequently Asked Questions
Cutting machines have a ±1–2mm tolerance. A 3mm bleed covers this variance so the finished card has no white edge from misalignment.
All critical information — name, phone, email, logo — must stay within the safe area to avoid being accidentally trimmed off.
ISO 7810 ID-1 is 85.6×54mm, but standards vary: US uses 3.5×2 in, Japan uses 91×55mm, and Korea uses 90×50mm most commonly.
