How to Use the Dashcam Parking Mode Battery Drain Calculator

When a dashcam keeps recording while your car is parked, it slowly drains the battery — sometimes enough that the car won't start after sitting for a while. This calculator takes your battery capacity, the dashcam's power draw, and how long you plan to leave the car parked, then tells you how long the battery can safely handle it and whether you're at risk of a drain.

Lead-acid batteries lose lifespan quickly once state of charge drops below 50%, and the risk of a no-start rises sharply from there. That's why this calculator conservatively treats only about half the rated capacity as safely usable. Lower power modes and larger batteries both extend how long you can safely leave the dashcam running.

If the result shows a drain risk, switching to a lower-power recording mode, adding an auxiliary battery, or simply turning off parking mode during extended stays are all practical fixes.
