How to use the quantity discount price tier generator
Volume pricing only works when the breaks are written down before the negotiation starts. Enter your base unit price, your unit cost, and the minimum quantity and discount for each tier, and this generator builds a quantity break table with the tier price, margin per unit and margin percentage for every band.
Tier boundaries are "this quantity or more." If tier 2 starts at 10, tier 1 covers 1-9 units and tier 2 covers 10 and up, so each band ends one unit below the next tier's minimum. The last tier stays open-ended. If a tier starts at the same or a lower quantity than the tier before it, or its discount is smaller than the previous tier's, the generator shows a message instead of building the table.
Each tier price is the base price multiplied by (1 − discount), rounded to the nearest cent, and the margin columns are calculated from that rounded tier price, so checking the table by hand gives the same numbers. If any tier ends up priced below your unit cost, a note under the table says how many.
